During World War II, U.S. soldiers landed on an island in the Pacific to keep watch over Japan. Amongst their supplies were 29 reindeer who were brought along as backup in case the soldiers ran out of food.
The war ended and the soldiers left all 19 reindeer alive and well on the island. No one could have imagined what the future would bring for these animals.
Their story astounded scientists and gave humans valuable insight on why we must take care of our planet for the sake of future generations.
